Guidance published on left atrial appendage occlusion to treat adults with atrial fibrillation
Health Technology Wales has published guidance on a type of heart surgery that can be used to prevent blood clots in adults with atrial fibrillation (AF) AF is an irregular and often rapid heart rhythm that can cause blood clots in the heart. These blood clots can form in the left atrial appendage part of the heart and can lead to a stroke.
National bodies to continue building on success of Celtic Connections strategic alliance
A strategic alliance between Health Technology Wales (HTW) and its national counterparts in Scotland and Ireland is to be renewed. The Celtic Connections strategic alliance will see HTW, the Scottish Health Technology Group (SHTG) and the Health Information Quality Authority (HIQA) of Ireland continue to share knowledge and explore opportunities to work in collaboration on the appraisal of non-medicine health technologies.

Health Technology Wales has published guidance on laryngeal biopsy for people with suspected head and neck cancer in outpatient settings Laryngeal biopsy uses a small instrument to remove a sample of cells from the larynx so it can be examined for signs of cancer.
