2026-2030 Health Technology Wales Strategy Plan published

We are pleased to announce the publication of our 2026-2030 Strategic Plan.

The plan sets out our immediate and medium-term goals and objectives for the next four years and was developed in partnership with stakeholders across health and social care.

It is a living document which will be continually refined to reflect changes to the health and social care policy agenda for Wales.

Included in the plan are HTW’s top five priority objectives for the next four years:

  • Produce and disseminate high quality, inclusive health and social care evidence appraisal and national guidance for NHS Wales.
  • Ensure alignment with Ministerial, policy and health and social care system priorities.
  • Support time-critical health and social care policy decision making via Welsh and UK initiatives, programmes and groups.
  • Undertake an annual adoption audit of HTW and select NICE guidance.
  • Collaborate with Welsh health and social care ecosystem partners and UK health technology assessment partners (e.g.  NICE, Scottish Health Technologies Group, Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency) to support relevant Welsh Government innovation and MedTech policy.

The plan also sets out HTW’s objectives in four key areas: Identification, appraisal, adoption and impact and engagement.

Dr Susan Myles, Director of Health Technology Wales, said:

“We would like to take this opportunity to thank our stakeholders across health and social care for their continued support of our work.

“In the next four years Health Technology Wales has a vital role to play in supporting the aims of Welsh Government to significantly improve health and care for the people of Wales.

“Rapid technological advancements mean it is more important than ever to identify health technologies with the most potential impact for Wales and assess their clinical and cost effectiveness.”
