Health Technology Wales publishes 2024/25 Annual Report

We are delighted to announce the publication of our 2024/25 Annual Report.

During 2024-25, we considered 58  new topic referrals and published 8 new HTW guidance documents, as well as 54 Topic Exploration Reports.

Our  national guidance covered topics ranging from digital tools for diabetes management to the enhanced liver fibrosis test and included pioneering AI technologies such as AI-assisted endoscopy for gastrointestinal cancer.

Our latest adoption audit report achieved the best response rates to date and showed that there is a high level of awareness of HTW guidance within NHS Wales and that our guidance is having a significant impact on decision making.

Throughout 2024/25 we collaborated with UK wide partners to help drive the development of innovative health technologies. This included  working in collaboration with clinical partners to develop guidelines for the appraisal of AI technologies.

In Spring 2024 we were commissioned by Welsh Government to produce an advisory report that would support the development of the Welsh Medtech ecosystem. This culminated in 22 recommendations covering themes such as the MedTech lifecycle, topic identification, regulation and sustainability.

We have also continued our work as a Collaborating Partner of the Health and Care Research Wales Evidence Centre, carrying out rapid reviews aimed at providing the most up to date research to support health and care decision making in Wales.

Meanwhile we have established a new partnership with the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) to ensure that we share information on evidence gaps identified during our appraisal process.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you our stakeholders for their continued support of our work. We hope you enjoy reading this annual report and we look forward to continuing to work with you to support health and care in Wales.
