Health Technology Wales publishes 2023/24 Annual Report

We are pleased to announce the publication of our 2023/24 Annual Report.

During 2023/24 we published 11 new pieces of national guidance on topics ranging from myopia control contact lenses to wearable cardioverter defibrillators.  This also included two pieces of social care guidance covering Intensive Family Preservation Programmes and Video Feedback Interventions.

Throughout this period, we have focused our efforts on supporting the delivery of Welsh Government’s six ministerial health and care priorities. As a result, we have evolved our topic identification processes and searched for topics which have been reviewed by HTA organisations internationally that address these priorities.

Meanwhile we have continued to engage with partners across the UK and internationally including as a partner of the Innovative Devices Access Pathway (IDAP) programme, which aims to bring transformative medical technologies to market as quickly as possible.

We have also continued our work as a Collaborating Partner of the Health and Care Research Wales Evidence Centre. This involves carrying out rapid reviews aimed at providing the most up to date research to support health and care decision making in Wales.

Our latest adoption audit report showed that there is a high level of awareness of HTW guidance within NHS Wales and that our guidance is having a significant impact on decision making. We look forward to continuing to work with our partners across health and social care in Wales to ensure that we appraise and publish national guidance on the  effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of health and care technologies, expected to be most impactful for Wales.
