Summary

Continuous wireless monitoring (CWM) of vital signs, using wearable, technology, on general surgical and medical wards may alert ward staff to patient deterioration more rapidly than intermittent monitoring. There are different systems available that typically measure two or more of ECG, heart rate, respiratory rate, oxygen saturation, blood pressure and temperature.

Based on the evidence identified, HTW’s Assessment Group concluded not to progress this topic to evidence appraisal.
